Indonesian deep tissue massage is a combination of Javanese and Balinese massage, dating back almost as far as Chinese massage.

It could be regarded as the original holistic method. This is an oil-based massage that originated as an ancient system of healing with a history of over 300 years in Indonesia, focusing on the deeper layers of muscle tissue.

It aims to release body pain and treats both chronic and acute muscle and joint pain - especially the back and shoulders. It is also a deep relaxing, de-stressing, pain relief deep tissue massage technique. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibres of the muscles, tendons and fascia. The deep tissue massages technique delivered using forearms, knuckles, heels of hands and thumbs, lots of body weight to push deeply into the tissue calms the emotions, relaxes body and mind, and contributes to a sense of well-being. It leaves you feeling good and it greatly beneficial to your health.

When muscles are stressed, they are in a constant shorten state and this cause oxygen and nutrients blockage, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue and that cause body pain, back pain and shoulder pain. An Indonesian Deep Tissue Massage technique work deeply on the muscles, fascia and tendon which helps loosens muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. Because lots of toxins are released, it's important to drink plenty of water after a deep tissue massage session to help eliminate these toxins from the body.

This is a great treatment for those who prefer a stronger, firmer massage as well as sports people and those who suffer from chronic muscle tension, poor circulation, low energy, indigestion, bloating, heartburn, depression or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

What to expect

A typical treatment is either 45 or 60 minutes. It will begin with a brief consultation and review of symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle.

You will be asked to undress (most people keep their underwear on) while the massage therapist is out of the room and lie down under a sheet on a padded massage table. The massage begins dry with compression and myofascial stretches to warm up the tissues and ease tension in the body followed by skin rolling to release fascial restrictions and acupressure to unblock stagnant energy.

Deep tissue work then follows to release strain patterns within the muscles, ease joint pain and strip out blocked energy. Traditionally coins were used to run along the energy lines, a method believed to be highly effective in releasing toxins. Eastern cultures believe feeling pain during a treatment is a positive sign of the effectiveness of the massage and that the body will heal itself much faster.

You will usually feel relaxed and energised after one treatment. For optimal results regular treatments are recommended.
